Ady Jaeckel '25 – South Africa
Jaeckel talks about the School's progress in providing spaces for immigrants.
Ady Jaeckel ‘25 is the child of immigrants, with both of their parents immigrating from South Africa.
As a child of immigrant, Jaeckel explained that the School is getting better at creating a safe space for immigrants.
"When I first arrived, I came from a public school in a much more diverse area, and almost everyone was a child of an immigrant. When I first came to Brimmer, it was a little bit of a culture shock, but I definitely feel like it’s a welcoming place. And people generally let your voice be heard.”

Given the staggering distance between Boston and South Africa, Jaeckel enjoys living in a large city by the ocean, where there is a large immigrant population along with opportunities to visit home more frequently.
“I feel like there is a lot of great spots here in Boston that kind of remind you that you are a world citizen and not just an American citizen, and I really like living near an airport because it means I get to go home more.”
In regard to the Voices Assembly, Jaeckel shared that Guevara’s comments at the Voices Assembly about snide remarks resonated with them.
“Because a lot of just the offhand comments that some kids make, especially when you are growing up, they can be hurtful and no one really says what you are thinking, but Emma did and that was really nice.”
